MUSIC megastars Tears For Fears will perform an outdoor concert in the North-East this summer– and The Northern Echo has tickets to give away.

Following a successful arena tour, the pop pioneers will play a select number of outdoor summer shows and Emirates Riverside, in Chester-le-Street, is one of the venues.

The band will play at the home of Durham County Cricket Club, on Saturday, July 27 and tickets go on sale at 9am this Friday.

Duo Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide since bursting onto the scene in 1981.

The Northern Echo:

The band's appeal remains strong with fans old and new thanks to enduring anthems, many of which have been sampled by artists like Kanye West, The Weeknd, Drake and David Guetta and featured in film soundtracks including The Wire, Donnie Darko, Straight Outta Compton and Mr Robot.

Following a string of hit albums in the 1980s they teamed up again in 2004 for Everybody Loves A Happy Ending.

A three-year tour of North America, Japan, South Korea, Manila, and South America kicked off in 2010 and in 2013 they released their first recorded music in a decade– a cover of Arcade Fire’s Ready to Start.

Most recently, they co-headlined a sold-out arena run in North America with Hall & Oates and delivered standout sets at British Summer Time in Hyde Park and Rock In Rio.

Enduring classics from their first career-spanning Greatest Hits album such as Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Shout, Mad World, Woman In Chains and Pale Shelter are expected to feature in the July set along with their first original collaborations since 2004.

Concert producer Liz Doogan-Hobbs said: “Tears for Fears have amassed fans across the globe and across the decades and continue to enthral through their unequivocal catalogue of hits.

"We are absolutely delighted to be working with them this summer and to be bringing yet another fantastic concert to Durham. Emirates Riverside is a beautiful venue and we look forward to an incredible evening at the ground.”

The date at Emirates Riverside comes after it hosted concerts from Little Mix, Simply Red, Simple Minds, Sir Tom Jones and Bryan Adams.
