WOULD-Be boxers will soon be able to hone their skills when a new North-East club opens its doors – but to do that, they need your help.

Billingham Boxing Club has been set up by local resident, Adrian Worth, to provide a training space for young people – and he has enlisted the help of Alex Cunningham MP to get the club up and running.

The club, which will soon be based in the old Moss and Campbell unit in Billingham Town Centre, is already attracting high numbers of young people through its doors but is now looking to expand. While it has the premises, it needs funding to ensure this is fit for purpose. Quotes to put in changing rooms, and other facilities are starting at around £20,000.

Mr Worth said: “I set up Billingham Boxing Club because I wanted to give local young people a way into the sport – as well as create a safe, welcoming place for young people.

" I’m delighted that the club has taken off so quickly, and the move to bigger, more permanent premises is really needed.”

Mr Cunningham said: “Adrian is really community minded, and the Billingham Boxing Club is proving to be great new hub for local young people. The club is already proving to be popular but it needs support – whether this is financial or ‘in-kind’.

"That’s why we’re doing a call for action to see if local businesses and people can offer their help to make sure this club is a success.”

The club will be based at the old Moss and Campbell unit. For more information, email billinghamboxingclub@gmail.com
