MUMFORD & Sons and US rapper Future have become the latest artists to be added to the line-up for this year's Radio 1 Big Weekend.

Yesterday, Radio 1's Breakfast Show host Greg James announced the station's flagship summer festival would be held in Stewart Park in Middlesbrough, Teesside, on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26.

As well as announcing the festival location, the DJ confirmed a number of headline acts, including Little Mix, The 1975 and Miley Cyrus.

And last night, the station confirmed Mumford & Sons, who have two UK number 1 albums to their name, and the Grammy award-winning rapper would also be appearing at Stewart Park.

More artists and details of how to get tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.

The last time the festival had been in the region was back in 2005, when it was held at Herrington Country Park, near Sunderland.

Welcoming the announcement, Middlesbrough Mayor Dave Budd said: “The announcement that the 2019 Radio 1 Big Weekend is coming to Stewart Park is a major coup for Middlesbrough and the whole Tees Valley.

"It’s one of the cultural highlights of the summer, and one of the biggest music festivals of its kind in Europe – music fans are in for a real treat with performances from some of the biggest acts from across the musical spectrum.

“It really promises to be a Brilliantly Boro Big Weekend and we look forward to welcoming the world to Middlesbrough.”
