POLICE have confirmed a man who was hospitalised following a crash has died.

Michael Armstrong, 35, of Ryhope, was a passenger in a car that was in collision with a garden fence on Kingston Mews, Philadelphia, Tyne and Wear, shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday.

A short time after the initial collision, officers were called to Ross Lea, Shiney Row, and found Mr Armstrong with serious injuries to his abdomen.

An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the collision and how Mr Armstrong came to sustain his injuries.

Three people were arrested in connection with the incident and remain under investigation.

Police are eager to hear from anybody who witnessed the collision or have information regarding the incident.
