THE Angel of the North, Britain’s most-viewed piece of public modern art, has reached its next significant milestone with people coming together to celebrate its 21st birthday.

To mark the occasion members of the Low Fell Community Choir and Art Diamonds project visited the Angel to sing a very special rendition of Happy Birthday. People were also invited to come along and board the Go North East Angel bus to take part in some creative activities with local artists.

Cabinet member for culture and leisure, Councillor Angela Douglas said: “The Angel of the North is not just an icon for Gateshead and the North-East, it's an international landmark which has brought regeneration, jobs and pride to the area. People have taken the Angel to their hearts and this has been shown clearly over the last year as we’ve celebrated Angel 20."

"We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us to mark both the 20th and 21st birthdays.”
