A FORMER British champion boxer has visited the place where he used to train in Catterick Garrison ahead of a play about his life being performed in the region.

Glenn McCrory visited the new gym at Peronne Lines, Catterick Garrison on Tuesday, and met Garrison Commander Lt Col Joe Jordan while he promoted Carrying David, which is to be performed at Richmond's Georgian Theatre Royal in June.

McCrory said: "I have been to Catterick Garrison many times and I've had fantastic support here.

"I am here to publicise a new play about my rise to being world champion, and my inspiration being my younger brother. He was my inspiration what who drove me to fulfil my dream."

Mr McCrory's brother David was terminally ill and fighting to stay alive during his brother's rise to fame.

Lt Col Jordan said: "Our role has been to support Glenn. When we heard about the play we wanted to get it put on here, and I'm sure it will be a good show."

  • Carrying David, written by Ed Waugh, will be shown at the Georgian Theatre Royal on Sunday, June 9 at 7.30pm.
