A CANNABIS farm made up of an estimated 150 plants has been uncovered in a County Durham village - thanks to the community.

Officers found the drugs farm when they visited the premises in Swan Street, Evenwood, near Bishop Auckland, on Tuesday.

Evenwood beat officer, PC Scott Crowhurst, said the discovery had been made thanks to information received from the community.

PC Crowhurst added: “We will always look into any information we are given by residents.

“In this case it has been invaluable to us in finding this cannabis farm.

“We would encourage anyone who has any concerns about crime in the area to contact us.

“Working together with the community and our partners can really help us achieve good results.”

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis.

Residents in the village and surrounding area can speak to officers who will be at the next PACT meeting at the Cornerstone Christian Centre, in Evenwood, from 10am on Thursday, February 21.

They will also be in attendance at the men’s breakfast at the centre tomorrow from 9am.

Anyone who witnesses anything suspicious is asked to get in touch on non-emergency number 101.
