THE Yorkshire Vet and Yorkshire Shepherdess will appear at a Dales community arts centre this summer.

Yorkshire Vet Julian Norton will appear at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, on Wednesday May 8 and Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen on Wednesday, July 24.

Mr Norton is the star of the popular Channel 5 Television series that follows his work in and around the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. He is also a best-selling author of three titles A Yorkshire Vet Through the Seasons and Horses, Heifers and Hairy Pigs: The Life of a Yorkshire Vet, and The Diary of Yorkshire Vet.

In An Evening With at The Witham on May 8, Mr Norton will share amusing anecdotes from his veterinary work in North Yorkshire.

Speaking at Barnard Castle’s community arts centre on July 24, Amanda Owen is a shepherdess, farmer’s wife, mother to nine children, a passionate photographer and a Sunday Times bestselling author. Mrs Owen and her family live a life that has almost gone in today's modern world, one ruled by the seasons and her animals. Home is Ravenseat, a 2000-acre hill farm at the head of Swaledale, North Yorkshire.

Sarah Gent, marketing manager, said: "I am so pleased to have booked these two fantastic speakers – to have speakers of this calibre and reach, especially those connected with farming, coming here demonstrates the positive shift in our programming - we are responding to what customers are telling us they would like to see here."

She added: "I recommend buying yours quickly to avoid disappointment. Events like these are enabling The Witham to increasingly support itself."

Tickets are now on sale on thewitham.org.uk, over the phone on 01833-631107 and in the box office shop between 9.30am to 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday and an hour before evening events.
