A NUMBER of homes were evacuated after a car crashed into a house disrupting the gas mains.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to an address on Acton Dene, in Stanley, following a one vehicle collision on Monday night.
"The incident occurred at around 6pm and involved a blue Mercedes which collided with a property causing a gas leak.
"Following the discovery of the leak, a cordon was put in place and the address and a nearby property were evacuated.
"The vehicle which caused minor damage has since been recovered.
a spokesperson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to an accident in East Stanley, at 6.05pm, where a car had collided with a house disrupting the gas supply.
"Nearby properties were evacuated. Two precautionary jets were in use. The gas board were in attendance and we left shortly afterward."
