THE Cleveland Farmers' Charity Ball held their popular fundraising event at the Teesside University Students Union Campus Heart on Friday, January 18.

A total of 280 guests enjoyed an an excellent three-course roast beef dinner provided by Cleveland Caterers and dancing was to 'The Fallen' band and Martin Wood's 'Festival Time Disco'.

"The generosity of the guests exceeded all expectations because approximately £7,500 was raised for several deserving local charities," said treasurer Derek Noble.

"The committee is most grateful to all the guests and the local businesses who contributed to a most magnificent and successful tombola table, raffle and ticket draw.

"The hardworking and dedicated committee, together with the University Events Team, worked tremendously well to ensure that the Ball, which did not finish until 2am, ran smoothly and to a very high standard of hospitality.

"A special thank you must be attributed to the phenomenal support of the 15 local business sponsors who had their advertisements electronically displayed, around the room, throughout the night."

The Ball started in 1920 in order to raise money for the destitute farming families who had lost their breadwinners in the First World War.

"This means that next year's event will be the Centenary Ball and the committee is already planning for a most splendid occasion to celebrate this unique achievement," added Mr Noble.
