A PHOTOGRAPH found behind a dust-covered framed print in a Sedgefield church has sparked an investigation to establish the identities of the two mystery men pictured.

Members of St Edmund’s Church are now keen to find out more about the photograph which was tucked away behind one of two wood-framed watercolour prints in the bell-ringing chamber.

Churchwarden and bell-ringer Brian Mutch said: “We came across the photograph when the brown backing paper on the framed watercolour print disintegrated but we don’t have any idea how long it has been gathering dust.”

It shows a possible father and son and appears to have been taken by a professional photographer in a studio.

The prints which had hidden the picture were William Frederick Yeames’s ‘And when did you last see your father’ and ‘The Toast’ by Richard Jack. Mr Mutch believes they were “clearly intended” to be displayed as a pair.
