MOTORISTS are being warned to avoid a stretch of the A19 where possible as one lane remains closed following a lorry fire last night, Monday.

The A19 reopened in the early hours of this morning but one lane on the southbound carriageway remains closed as repairs are carried out to a bridge.

The road was sealed off yesterday afternoon after a lorry caught fire between the Crathorne and A174 Parkfield junctions.

The driver was taken to hospital with burns but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "Drivers are asked to use alternative routes where possible. Thank you for your patience."
