A DECISION is due to be made on whether a new fish and chips shop is given an application to sell alcohol.

Graham Kennedy, director of Bells Fish and Chips, made the application for his new shop in Durham Road, in Framwellgate Moor, Durham, which opened at the end of last year in a former car showroom.

He wants to be able to serve alcohol on the premises, between 10am and 9pm on Monday to Sunday, shutting the restaurant at 10pm.

The restaurant in Durham Road, Framwellgate Moor, has been converted from a car salesroom

Initially, he applied to sell late night refreshments until midnight, but altered the application following letters from three local residents.

One person has objected to the current application because of concerns over rubbish, late night noise and the sale of alcohol.

A decision is due to be made by Durham county councillors at a meeting at County Hall on Tuesday.
