Spennymoor Town manager Jason Ainsley is looking for his first ever league win over Darlington at Blackwell Meadows tomorrow.

Moors have never beaten Darlington in a league game or play-off game – eight in all - but they won a Northern League Cup tie in season 2012-13.

Moors go into the game full of confidence after outplaying Sutton United in the Buildbase FA trophy last week, which means that they have lost only once in their last seven league and cup matches.

“We’re really looking forward to the game,” he said. “Darlington have come through a blip, and they’ve had some great results at home recently, so maybe this isn’t the right time to play them. Both clubs like to get the ball down and play, so I don’t think it will be 0-0!

“I don’t think our performances in the past have been bad against them, it’s just that we’ve made mistakes at crucial times, for example our keeper made a mistake in the game there last season. If we can eliminate those errors, then we’ve got a chance.

“We need the three points to cement our place in the play-off position, but I would have said that no matter who we’re playing. It’s an added attraction that it’s a local derby, and there will be plenty of our fans in the ground as well.

“It’s a great gesture by our chairman, Brad Groves, to put free buses on for the fans – he is very good at looking after the fans and the players – and so it will be even better if we can repay him by winning the game.

“It will certainly be a monkey off our backs though if we win.”

Their form away from the Brewery Field is bettered only by the top two, Chorley and Bradford Park Avenue, with six wins and four draws in their thirteen away league games.

Ainsley has a couple of injury worries to resolve first, with midfielder Rob Ramshaw and striker Mark Anderson both having fitness tests, but defender Jake Hibbs is definitely out because of injury.

Saturday’s match is segregated, Moors fans are advised to use the turnstiles to the right of the clubhouse.

In the EvoStik League Premier Division, South Shields expect a big crowd for their home game with league leaders Farsley, while Whitby are at home to North Ferriby.

In the EvoStik East, leaders Morpeth are at home to Loughborough, while Marske are at home to Lincoln United.
