SUNDERLAND have won their appeal against Chris Maguire’s dismissal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Luton Town.

Maguire was sent off in the closing stages at the Stadium of Light after referee Lee Probert concluded he had stamped on Luton midfielder Alan McCormack.

Both Maguire and his manager, Jack Ross, insisted that was not the case, and an independent FA disciplinary hearing ruled in their favour.

As a result, Maguire will no longer have to serve a three-match ban and will be available for Sunderland’s weekend game at Scunthorpe United.

An FA statement said: “A claim of wrongful dismissal regarding Sunderland AFC’s Christopher Maguire has been successful following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing. The player was sent off for violent conduct during the game against Luton Town on Saturday.”
