A MAN has died following a house fire.
Emergency services were called to Thornfield Road, Consett, just before 1pm on Wednesday.
The victim of the blaze, a 54-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “The fire was confined to one property.
“An investigation into the death and the cause of the fire will now take place. It is not being treated as suspicious.”
Three fire engines from Consett and High Handenhold attended and breathing apparatus crews went into the house where the man was found.
No-one else was injured or rescued from the blaze.
The fire service’s group manager, Colin Davis, said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family and friends at this time.
“A joint fire investigation between ourselves and the police concluded last night and the cause is being treated as non-suspicious.”
