MOUNTAIN rescue teams have thanked members of the public who helped rescued an injured walker on Roseberry Topping.

A 37-year-old man from Stockton slipped on mud on the popular hill, near Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, and injured his ankle, on Sunday afternoon.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue volunteers were called out to take part in their last rescue of the year and carried the injured man down the hill.

The team said on its Facebook page: "The drama started when a 37-year-old Stockton man slipped, injuring his ankle, on a muddy path as he descended from the top of Roseberry towards Newton.

"Cleveland Mountain Rescue were alerted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service and responded by deploying their Land Rover ambulances to Aireyholme Farm from where access to Roseberry Topping could be obtained.

"Members of the team located the injured man, who had been on a walk with a friend, about 300 metres from the nearest driveable track.

"His injuries were quickly assessed and stabilised by a team doctor before the injured man was carried about 300m to a waiting Land Rover for transport to an ambulance waiting at the farm.

"The incident involved 20 team members and took around two hours."

CMRT said Roseberry Topping was busy and thanked walkers who helped rescuers get the man down the hill.
