A LARGE number of suspected firearms and explosives were found at three properties in County Durham and Darlington.

Bomb disposal experts attended one address in Shildon and two in Darlington after police received a report that a possible crime was happening at the Shildon property overnight between Friday and Saturday.

A police spokesperson said: “Upon entering the property, officers located a large quantity of suspected firearms and what appeared to be explosive material.

“Following inquiries, a further two addresses with similar items inside were also located in Darlington.

“Bomb disposal experts have attended all three addresses, and have confirmed that the areas are safe with no ongoing risk or danger to the public.”

Officers remain at all three properties. One man is in custody and is assisting officers with the inquiries.
