HOURS after her plane from Australia touched down in the UK, TV star Scarlett Moffatt was out and about on home turf helping her charity to spread joy.

The I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here Now Extra Camp presenter is an ambassador for the Angel Trust, which is based in her home town Bishop Auckland.

And yesterday, before even going to bed, she threw herself straight into charity work collecting donations, delivering gifts and making a special little girl’s dream come true.

Scarlett, mam Betty who is a trustee of the charity and its chief executive Clair McGregor visited Lyla O’Donovan and her family at Ushaw Moor, County Durham.

Six-year-old Lyla was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016.

She had surgery in Bristol Children’s Hospital, where she stayed for three months before being allowed home, and has since required a further two operations.

Dad Paul contacted the Angel Trust simply to ask the charity if it would use its profile to raise awareness of childhood brain tumours.

But trustees were so touched by their story they decided to organise something special for the whole family.

Scarlett delivered bags full of gifts for Lyla and siblings Reece, 13, Olivia, 12, Lilley, ten, Harry, seven, and nine-month-old Henry.

And she surprised Lyla with an invitation to a recording studio to make her own CD, alongside a Disney princess– maybe even her favourite character Moana.

Scarlett said: “This is why I love coming home, I saw family and friends then was out with the Angel Trust doing amazing things like this about 17 hours later, with no sleep.

“Lyla and her family were lush, I hope they have a great time with the Disney princesses.

“I don’t feel like a celebrity but it is nice to go and surprise people and see the difference it makes.”

Mrs McGregor said on the day of the treat, the family will be driven in a limousine to the studio in Gateshead to see Lyla perform and record her favourite songs.

Mr O’Donovan, who is in the Army, said the family are fans of Scarlett and particularly enjoyed watching her on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

He said: “We really didn’t want anything, we just want more people to know about children’s brain tumours. We’ve tried to share Lyla’s journey to reassure people who are going through it that they are not alone, to offer support.

“We’ve had people from all over, even Italy, make contact and ask what to expect.

“For the Angel Trust to do this for us is amazing.

“Lyla will absolutely love it. It is really nice they included the whole family because it is hard on her brothers and sisters too, we’ve been on holidays and never stayed the whole time because Lyla was ill and they’ve had to be so strong.”
