A DRIVER has been charged with drink-driving after a crash on the A167 north of Darlington on Sunday.
The road was closed for several hours following the two-car smash involving a Toyota Aygo and a Vauxhall Corsa, just after 10pm.
The vehicles were both travelling east on the A167 from Coatham Mundeville.
It is believed the Toyota attempted to overtake the Vauxhall, but aborted the manoeuvre, hit the Vauxhall and then collided with a tree.
The Toyota driver was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious leg injuries.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, a 41-year-old man, did not receive any injuries and was arrested at the scene. He was later charged with driving without insurance, driving a vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence and drink driving and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on January 3.
The road was closed for several hours whilst recovery of the vehicles took place.
- Anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 430 of December 9.
