FIVE burglaries and three attempts have prompted a police warning in Sedgefield.

Police said the incidents in the last few days involve forced entry to a number of addresses with car keys being snatched along with the “high value/high performance vehicles”.

Following the so-called “two in one burglaries”, officers are now urging residents in the town to be vigilant.

A spokesman said: “Help prevent further incidents by taking car keys upstairs and not leaving them in obvious places i.e. kitchen drawers, coat pockets and handbags.

"If possible any high value cars should be blocked in with other cars you own where possible.

"Alarm your property at night in particular if you own a high value car.”

  • Anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity or if residents have CCTV that could assist inquiries call Sedgefield police on 101.
