POLICE hope to trace a taxi driver and a young couple who were subject to alleged knife threats.

Two males became abusive and aggressive to taxi drivers parked outside Eden Bar, in Peterlee, just after midnight on Sunday.

One threatened a taxi driver with a knife before walking off towards a hand car wash.

Several minutes later he was involved in and dispute with a young couple, during which he, again, produced a knife.

Both men made off towards the town bus station, where they were detained by police.

But police would like to hear from the couple or the taxi driver on 101, quoting reference DHM25112018-0013.

Police said the suspects are not from the Peterlee area and had not been in Eden Bar or Vibe nightclub, where door staff came to the assistance of both the couple, and officers in detaining the pair.
