POLICE have closed a road in Darlington town centre after a window was smashed, covering the ground in glass.
East Street is temporarily shut while police officers and workers from Wilkos clear the street of debris.
It was closed after a window to the carpark above Wilkos was smashed in as yet undetermined circumstances.
Crowds of onlookers have gathered to watch police officers sweep the road, with motorists leaving the Christmas lights switch-on turned around and sent back towards the town centre.
