POLICE are appealing for information following separate stabbing incidents within a few hours on Tuesday night.

The Northumbria force is investigating after receiving a report of a knife attack in Newcastle city centre, at about 6.30pm.

A 29-year-old man suffered a stab wound to the neck with what is believed to have been a screwdriver, near to the Sandman Signature Hotel, in Gallowgate, not far from St James’ Park.

Inquiries were “ongoing” today, and police are specifically said to be looking for a Turkish/Middle Eastern man, described as 5ft 4ins, of large build, who was clean shaven and wearing a black wool beanie hat, plus a long black coat.

Anyone in the area at the time, specifically if they saw what took place, is asked to ring Newcastle Central CID, on 101, quoting log 911 19/11/18.

Several hours later, a casualty turned up at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary with injuries said to be consistent with being attacked with some form of bladed article.

Police said it is believed the 33-year-old man was assaulted near to Blakelaw and District Social Club, in Cragston Way, in Newcastle’s West End.

He was said to have been attacked with a bladed article and sprayed with an unknown substance, believed to have been ammonia, at about 11.50pm.

His injuries were not said to be life threatening, but he remained in hospital in a stable condition, today.

The Northumbria force is also appealing for information from witnesses or anyone in the area at the time.
