A VETERAN musician and his sister have released an album featuring a title track which they first performed to their mother on the day she died.

In My Mother’s Eyes is a tribute to Ron White and Beryl Smith’s mother, Elsie White, who was able to dance to and “savour the moment” of a joint concert with their brother Melvyn White two years ago.

CHARITY DISC: Ron White and Beryl Smith sing Choose Love from their album In My Mother's Eyes Video: SARAH CALDECOTT

The song is one of ten to appear on an album recorded by Mr White, of Tow Law, and Mrs Smith, of Crook, which they are selling to raise money for charity.

Mr White, 68, said: “My mother was one of my biggest supporters in music. When I was a little lad she said if you write a hit song you will make a lot of money and I’m still trying.”

The retired carpenter, who is a member of the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers, has written more than 1,400 songs.

In recent years, in his continued bid to pen a number one hit, he has released CDs around Christmas time.

These have included Home in 2015 and Give Us a Hug For Christmas in 2016.

And last year the father-of-one and his sister got back into the studio for the first time in half a century to record Sentimental Journey.

Despite an ongoing battling with a debilitating lung disease called pulmonary fibrosis - and following a stint in hospital this year with pneumonia - he has been hard at work again.

This year’s effort has seen the pair join forces once again to record their latest compilation.

In My Mother’s Eyes was recorded at Wear Jammin studio in Tow Law Community Centre and was produced by Michael Walker.

Written by Mr White, who plays guitar and sings, the album features three Christmas songs while Mrs Smith, 66, sings on six tracks.

In recent years Mr White’s CDs have raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

This year the proceeds will be divided between Derwentside Mind, St Andrew’s Church, on Dawson Street, in Crook, and Tow Law Lunch Club.

CDs are £3 and are available to buy now.

They are available from Tow Law Chemists, Cathy’s, in Tow Law, Her's and Sir's, in Tow Law, Tow law Community Centre, the Derwentside Mind office, in Consett, the Blue Stone Tea Shop, in Crook and Ritchie Coatsworth Photography, in Crook.
