A MAN appeared in court accused of three separate instances of dangerous driving, in two of which an accident took place.

Hayden David Bowers is alleged to have been at the wheel of a Saab car which was driven dangerously on The Grove, in Coxhoe, on Thursday September 20.

He is also said to have been driving a Ford Transit Connect van, again in a dangerous manner, on the A688 in County Durham, on September 4 and a Ford Focus, dangerously, on Melrose Drive, in Bishop Auckland, on October 9.

Appearing at Durham Crown Court, via video link from the city’s nearby prison, he denied three counts each of dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

The 22-year-old defendant, of Hutchinson Street, Bishop Auckland, also denies two counts each of failing to stop after an accident and failing to stop for a police officer.

In all three cases he denied driving without insurance.

When Judge Christopher Prince asked about the case, the defendant said: “I’m not the driver in any of them.”

The case was adjourned for a trial of up to three days to be staged at the court, starting on Monday January 21.

Defence barrister Chris Baker said that an interim bail application will be shortly lodged with the court.
