A MAN suffered a serious stab wound to his chest following a 'targeted' attack on Friday night.
The 54-year-old man was was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
This morning, police confirmed that a 51-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody while investigations continue into the incident.
Cleveland Police said officers were called to an address on Burgess Street in Stockton at around 8.40pm.
Armed officers were deployed to the scene, according to eye-witnesses in the area.
A forensic tent was erected outside the terraced property while officers carried out their investigations at the scene.
The area around the house was cordoned off for several hours to keep the scene secured.
As part if the investigation into the incident, officers carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Stockton in which a 54-year-old man was stabbed in the chest.
"The man remains in police custody."
