A MAN has had a lucky escape after being hit by a car on a bust street on Wednesday night.
The 72-year-old local man was struck by a dark blue Toyota Yaris at about 5.45pm in Cockton Hill Road, Bishop Auckland.
He was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital but a spokesman for Durham Constabulary confirmed his injuries were not serious.
The road, which is a main route into the town centre, was closed for about three hours following the collision.
Police are now appealing for witnesses. The car was travelling south on Cockton Hill Road when it struck the pedestrian in the carriageway outside of Cockton Hill Working Mens Club.
The spokesman said: "Any witnesses who did not already pass their details to the police on scene or any motorists with dashcam footage who may have recorded the Toyota Yaris at or around the collision are asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit."
You can call the unit on 0191-3752159 or Durham Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number DHM-07112018-0328.
