DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses to an assault which left the victim hospitalised with a head injury.
The 52-year-old was approached by two men on Front Street, in Whickham, Gateshead at 11.55pm on Friday where he was assaulted.
The attackers are described as being white and 19 or 20 years old. One of them was wearing a blue and white hooded top.
The victim has been taken to hospital with a head injury. His condition is not believed to be life threatening.
Police have now launched an investigation to identify those responsible and are seeking witnesses to the incident.
Anyone who may have seen the assault or potentially has dashcam footage of the incident is asked to get in touch. Or anyone who believes they saw people acting suspiciously in the area on Friday evening is asked to contact Northumbria police on 101 quoting log 1373 021118 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
