A TEENAGER who died suddenly over the weekend has been named as 17-year-old Joel Nichols.

While his death is not being treated as suspicious, two youngsters aged 15 and 16 have been arrested in connection to the circumstances around his death and are expected to be questioned soon.

Paramedics were called out to Marton, Middlesbrough at 9.30pm on Friday night as they tended to Joel, who had become seriously unwell.

He was rushed by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Detective Sergeant Darren Wild, of Middlesbrough’s Operational Crime Team, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with Joel’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Joel’s death itself is not currently being treated as suspicious, however inquiries into the circumstances surrounding it are on-going."
