A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of rape following a police search in Bishop Auckland.

The local man, in his 20s, was arrested by police last night.

A cordon has been in place and officers have been combing the area around Brack’s Farm, Bishop Auckland, since the offence took place on Saturday, October 20.

Bishop Auckland Neighbourhood Inspector, Andy Reeves, said: “Following our extensive enquiries, we have arrested a man who is currently being questioned by police in custody.

"The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

“We would like to remind the public that it is vital that they do not speculate on the identity of either the victim or the suspect in this case and allow police to carry out our own investigation.

“We are still appealing for information and if anyone saw anything suspicious in the Brack’s Farm area, please contact us on 101.”
