A PSYCHIATRIC report is to be drawn up on a woman who admitted recklessly starting a fire at her rented home.

The seat of the blaze was said to have been a towel nailed to the rear of the door of Kelly Fulton’s Easington Colliery home, on June 5.

It caused damage to the doorway and ground floor surrounds, plus part of the entrance area to a neighbouring property, in Bradley Street.

Although the adjoining house was being lived in, no-one was present at the time.

Appearing at Durham Crown Court, via video link from Low Newton Women’s Prison, the, now 33-year-old defendant admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered, but denied the more serious charge of arson with intent to endanger life.

It was not accepted by the Crown at the time of the plea hearing, in July.

But, following preparation of medical reports on Fulton, seen by the prosecution, those charges are now considered, “acceptable”.

Sentence was adjourned to allow a full psychiatric report to be drawn up on Fulton, who was remanded in custody until December 7.
