A SALON owner is helping those suffering from health-related hair loss by donating a percentage of her profits to charity.

Nicola Wood who runs Kitui Hair Design, in Sunderland, has also launched a service providing wig care following her own battle with breast cancer, which she overcame after being diagnosed with the condition in June 2016.

The wig service is available to NHS patients who qualify as well as private clients.

Ms Wood said: “Lots of people buy wigs and then don’t wear them, and there are other people who really need them but can’t afford them. The Wig Bank is a great solution to this problem.

“We wash, treat and recycle the wigs and basically bring them back to life - we’re working with local charities to identify people who are most in need of this service.”

The salon provides regular hairdressing as well as a wig fitting, cutting, re-styling and aftercare services.

One of the first beneficiaries was 30-year-old Emma Herrington, she said: “My hair was my crown and, at 30, I wasn’t ok with losing it. Nicola understood and empathised with that."
