A MAN accused of stealing thousands of pounds worth of clothing from a shop in Barnard Castle has appeared at court.
Kenneth Yorke of Walker Drive, Bishop Auckland, appeared before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe this morning charged with burglary and handling stolen goods.
The 27-year-old did not enter a plea and was released on bail to appear bail.
The charge relates to a burglary which took place in the early hours of Wednesday, October 10, at the Fox & Field clothing store, in Barnard Castle, where about £12,000 worth of stock was stolen.
Inspector Ed Turner, of Barnard Castle Police, said: “Since the incident, we have recovered the property and returned it to the rightful owner, which the victim is extremely happy about.”
Two other burglaries happened at the Richardson Community Hospital, Victoria Road and CCS Catering Ltd on the Industrial Estate at Stainton Grove on the same night.
Insp Turner said investigations into the additional incidents are continuing.
