WRITERS can win the chance to see their words in print and a cash prize by entering a free, short story competition.

The competition has been organised by The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, at South Shields.

Authors can submit uplifting stories of up to 3000 words in length and the winner with receive a £100 cash prize, with £50 and £25 to the second and third placed. The top entries will be published in a paperback anthology.

Entries are restricted to one story per person and entry forms can be downloaded free from The Word’s website until December 14.

The overall winner will be announced at the WRITE Festival 2019, a fortnight-long annual festival celebrating the written word in all its forms through workshops, events and activities next May.

Two short story-writing workshops will be held, in conjunction with Sixth Element Publishing, on Saturday, November, 10 and 24, 1.30pm to 3.30pm. They cost £3 per person and booking is essential.
