PLANNING permission has been granted in principle for a new housing development on the edge of an east Durham village, despite some objections.
Durham County Council’s planning committee meeting today agreed to allow outline permission for the development west of Hallfield Drive, Hall Walks, Easington Village.
The meeting was told there were six letters of concern over issues such as the lack of school places, highway safety and loss of privacy.
The applicant argued, while not within the village settlement boundary, the site is directly next to the A19 forming a solid boundary separating the village from the open countryside.
Planning officers recommended approval saying the scheme “is considered to be in a sustainable location which has the potential to deliver self-build properties”.
