A CEREMONY to officially open a refurbished war memorial is taking place this weekend.
Dipton War Memorial group was formed two years ago, after the death of 28-year-old Sapper Daryn Roy in Afghanistan in 2010.
The hedge has been trimmed back and a poignant metal sign depicting the silhouettes of fallen servicemen with the words, Lest We Forget and We Will Remember Them, has been put in place.
The committee is also installing a memorial bench at the site outside the Jubilee Community Centre on Front Street in Dipton.
The group is hoping to raise £10,000 for a marble wall which will be engraved with the names of those from the village who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The ceremony is at 11am on Sunday and will be attended by the Royal British Legion and the Bikers Section of the legion.
