A NEW piece by acclaimed pianist and composer Nikki Iles is to have its world premiere this month at the Middlesbrough Jazz Weekender.
The new commission will be performed by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra as part of their concert at Middlesbrough Town Hall.
Iles has progressed into the front rank of British jazz and is part of a team at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
‘Wild Oak’ will form the centrepiece of the first half her performance with the NYJO at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Saturday, October 20.
The piece is dedicated to one of Iles’ favourite musicians – the late Geri Allen, pianist, composer and female jazz musician.
The event takes place from Friday, October 19 to Sunday 21. Tickets are available from 01642-729729.
