HUNDREDS of people turned out for an annual walk raising awareness about cardiac risk in the young.

The walk around Durham is organised by Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and raised more than £1,000 for the charity.

About 240 people took part in the walk around the riverbanks.

Fundraising manager Rebecca Zouvani said: “As every year, Saturday’s Durham walk really was a wonderful occasion.

“The sun shone on us and we received so much support and interest from shoppers and passers-by, helping us to fulfil our mission of raising awareness of CRY and young sudden cardiac death.”

CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families, as well as developing heart screening programmes and funding medical research.
