A MAN was seriously injured in a suspected assault on Stockton high street has now been identified by police.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7pm last night (Saturday, October 6) after a man was found unconscious.

He was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough but officers were not immediately able to identify the man.

Police have now identified the man who was allegedly the victim of an assault outside the Clock Tower pub on Stockton High Street at the weekend (on the evening of Saturday 6th October).

The 55 year old local man remains in a critical condition in James Cook University Hospital.

A 24 year old man questioned in connection with the alleged incident has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Cleveland Police are still appealing for witnesses, who are asked to contact them via the 101 number, quoting event 184363.

The man police need to identify is described as white, approximately 50-years-old, of heavy build and 5’10” tall.

He has very closely cropped balding grey hair and was wearing a coloured long sleeved jumper, blue denim jeans and brown boots.

He had been drinking in the Clock Tower pub before an alleged altercation at 7.15pm with another man.
