BREEDS of dogs with black coats are hoping to find a new home as part of National Black Dog Day celebrations.

Dozens of homeless hounds sporting black fur and living at the Dogs Trust Darlington rehoming centre, in Sadberge, are on the lookout for their forever homes.

The rescue dogs include Bruno, a ten-year-old German Shepherd, and Frankie, an eight-year-old greyhound.

Both dogs are young at heart, with Bruno willing to work on his training in exchange for food, while Frankie can enjoy a happy retirement home that might include other dogs.

Best friends Roxie and Zana, two eight-year-old Dobermans, need a new home together where they can share their mutual love for human companionship.

Sister Kate and Lass, lurchers aged two and three, are another black doggy duo hoping to rehomed as a pair. They are fully house-trained and can live with children over the age of 11.

The charming Prince, a three-year-old crossbreed, can be shy around new people, but is a clever and energetic dog looking to settle in an adult-only home.

Three lurchers, Zoe, Domino and Jack, all aged two and three, are a pack with different personalities. Zoe can spend hours playing with toys, Domino enjoys the quieter life and Jack wants to show off his tricks.

Sue Embleton, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Darlington, said: “We're always on the lookout for opportunities to promote our residents and give them as many chances as possible to find suitable owners, regardless of each dog’s age, colour, breed or background.”
