IT was a harvest festival with a twist at one County Durham primary school yesterday.

That's as pupils from Ingleton CofE Primary School, in Ingleton, Teesdale, held a bake-off competition in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research.

The children, aged from three to 11, pulled out all the stops for the competition organised by the school council, with more than 50 entries.

Teacher, Katie Harris, had the tough job of judging the competition with everything from Harvest-inspired tractor cakes to sparkly cupcakes and cookies on offer.

She said: "It was incredibly hard to judge and everyone did an amazing job - there were some really creative ideas."

One Year 4 pupil, Ronnie Raper, nine, was amongst the winners and was also praised for raising £140 with a Macmillan coffee morning he held in place of his birthday party at his home in Hilton last month.

The pupils celebrated the festival with a service in the village church before inviting the whole community back for their own coffee morning in aid of the charity.

Headteacher, Karen Whitaker, praised all the children and parents involved and said she was so impressed by the entries.
