A PARENTS’ guide to a theatrical festival has been released as its latest instalment comes to Darlington.

The next season of Jabberwocky Market will be staged in venues around the town and further afield this week.

An eclectic programme of pop-up shows is at the heart of a festival which aims to inspire a love of theatre by making it accessible to all.

The 11th season began on Wednesday and will run until Sunday, October 7.

As it got underway, organisers highlighted shows they believe will be of interest to parents and families.

For those willing to travel outside of the town in search of entertainment, Ground Control takes place at Greenfield in Shildon and is suitable for youngsters aged seven to 12.

The interactive show, on from Thursday until Saturday, invites children to help three astronauts explore a planet and assist in establishing a functioning society and identity for it.

Under-tens can also enjoy the next Big Little Gigs show, which will feature a family-friendly performance from swing band Ragtime Rewind, taking place from 3pm until 4pm on Saturday at Polam Hall School.

The trials and tribulations of parenthood will be explored in a performance more suitable for adults when Facebook Saved Our Baby is staged at the same venue.

The storytelling show, based on real life experiences, explores one family’s attempts to cure their daughter’s chronic eczema and will take place from 7pm on Saturday.
