THE COMMITTEE behind a major refurbishment of a village hall which has seen it be completely transformed is holding a special lunch to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Margaret Tickner, from the Friends of Booth Memorial Hall Group, said the work on the Catterick Village hall is almost complete after a massive make-over including new kitchen, roof, floor, windows, and installation of a lift, costing around £150,000.

One of the last projects to be completed is a new toilet, but the group needs to raise more cash in order for it to be done.

Mrs Tickner said: "The community has raised more than £60,000 in the last four years which is truly remarkable. We have had other grants from various charitable funds but the community has really been behind us.

"We hold monthly lunches, often with a special theme, and we are planning one on Wednesday, November 7 as a Remembrance special.

There will be a menu inspired by food available during World War II, and the hall will be decorated with knitted poppies.
