STRETCH your legs, enjoy the beautiful views, and raise money for a good cause at a family-friendly event in Durham next month.

By joining in with the Royal British Legion Poppy Run at Aykley Recreational Ground on November 3, you’ll be helping veterans in the forces’ community to gain the skills and self-belief to transform their lives as they recover from physical and mental challenges. It’s a great way to give something back to those that have sacrificed so much for our nation, past and present.

You don’t even have to run! Get around the scenic 5k course as fast or as slow as you like – run, jog, walk – whatever you choose. Make it a great fundraising activity for all the family – bring the children, the dog, and maybe even persuade the grandparents to have a stroll. All ages and abilities are welcome.

The event promises to be a fun challenge that will help build new memories and will be a great way - especially in 2018, the anniversary of the end of WW1 - to say ‘Thank you’ to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world.

The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community - serving men and women, veterans, and their families. Support includes:

• providing compensation, advice, and help with debt and emergency situations

• ensuring every service man and woman receives the highest quality recovery and rehabilitation possible from life changing injuries, both physically and mentally

• taking the whole family into account when improving quality of life for those struggling with the impact of military life.

No-one should have to walk the road to recovery alone. But together we are unstoppable.

Put the date in your diary and start limbering up. Adult entry is £15; ages 7 to 17 years’ entry is £7.50; while under 7 years are free.

Your four-legged friend is free too!

Entry fee includes a T shirt, digital fundraising pack and finisher’s medal, and we would encourage you to raise £50 to power veterans’ recovery.
