AN ‘OUTSTANDING’ sixth form centre in Durham is holding an open evening so that potential students – and parents – can discover for themselves why they’ve earned the best Ofsted rating.

Durham Sixth Form Centre - the largest post-16 school in the North East - will open its doors on Thursday, October 18, between 5pm and 8pm, to showcase the centre and its facilities.

Celebrating record-breaking exam results in 2018, their students achieved 100 per cent passes at A-Level, with almost three quarters of all entries awarded at grades A*- B (or equivalent).

Headteacher, Ellen Beveridge, said: “Every year, I continue to be inspired by the hard work and dedication of our students. I am pleased that this hard work has been rewarded with such fantastic academic success, which has allowed students to take up their places at university - including some of the top universities - on prestigious school-leaver programmes, or on higher-level apprenticeships.

“These results, coupled with our outstanding grading from Ofsted, demonstrate that the school is continuously providing high-quality education to students in the region and, more importantly, that students feel challenged and supported to achieve their very best.”

The vast majority of students from Durham Sixth Form Centre go on to university, including Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities. Others take up places on prestigious higher-level apprenticeships and school leaver programmes, or enter employment. The centre’s award-winning Progression team is instrumental in supporting students with their progression plans.

Situated in the heart of Durham City, Durham Sixth Form Centre is a short walk from both the bus and railway stations, and so is easily accessible to students travelling from all over the North East. Students attend from more than 70 different secondary schools from across County Durham, Sunderland, Teesside and Northumberland, and can choose from a range of more than fifty different A-Level, BTEC and other Level 3 qualifications.

Durham Sixth Form Centre’s values help to determine the culture, ethos and atmosphere of school, with:

  • High-quality, inspirational teaching and learning
  • Excellent support, care and guidance
  • Personal and professional integrity
  • Ambition and progress for our students, our communities and ourselves
