A YOUNG man caught on CCTV climbing over a wall is wanted by police investigating thousands of pounds worth of criminal damage.

Vehicle windows were smashed and paint was thrown around during a break-in at a workshop at Hawthorn Cottages, Consett, on September 18.

Police would like to speak with the male caught on video scaling the wall into the compound. He is described as being about 15 or 16 years old and wearing a red tracksuit top.

Officers are also investigating a burglary the following day at a dance studio next to the old Co-Op buildings on Front Street in Leadgate.

A white and silver Audio S speaker system along with two Makita drills, batteries, chargers and a saw was stolen along with 35 pairs of leggings, babies clothing, sweets and Lucozade.

A police spokesman said: “The removal of these items have had a severe impact on a local business providing dance classes for local children.”

On September 21, a Stihl strimmer, drill and chainsaw worth £800 were stolen from an allotment on Mortimer Street, Blackhill.

The spokesman added: “These items belong to the allotment owner who uses them for his business and the general up keep of the allotment.”
