AN elderly man and woman have been taken to hospital following a crash at a junction.
The 87-year-old driver of a red Mazda was on the B1278, in Sedgefield, when his vehicle collided with a silver Audi A4 travelling south on the A177, at the junction between the two roads.
He and his passenger, an 88-year-old woman, were both injured and were taken to hospital.
Durham Police received the report of the crash shortly after 1.30pm on Friday.
A spokesperson for the force said the driver of the Audi, a 53-year-old man, was also injured.
Both vehicles were significantly damaged.
Officers have closed the road from the roundabout of the B1278 to the junction of the A177.
They have also closed the A177 from the turning for the Knotty Hill Golf Centre to the turning for Hardwick Hall Hotel.
Police in Sedgefield have requested drivers avoid the area.
