LEARNING is child’s play for pupils at one village primary school after a new play house was installed.

Schoolchildren at Cockfield Primary School, in Cockfield, Teesdale, are delighted with their new wooden play house which was officially opened by Durham County Councillor for Evenwood, Heather Smith, on Monday.

The facility was funded through Cllr Smith's Teesdale Area Action Partnership's Neighbourhood Budget, with a grant of £1,500 being given.

Headteacher, Kathryn Heatherington, said the pupils designed the house themselves and came up with costings before approaching Cllr Smith.

Mrs Heatherington said the house was build in the summer holidays, with the whole project taking about three months from start to finish.

"They wanted it to be a proper house with a kitchen and settee and they play in it in break times but it can also be used for lessons too," she said. "Heather officially opened it on Monday and we want to say a great big thank you to her because obviously we could not have afforded it ourselves."
