First division Shildon lost on penalties to second division Willington in the Brooks Mileson Northern League Cup after a 3-3 draw in normal time, with keeper Lewis Graham scoring the clinching penalty.

Shildon player-manager Danny Moore scored twice to put his side 2-0 up, but Willington replied in the last 20 minutes through Mattie Moffat and Michael Brown (2). But Moore completed his hat trick with a header in the last minute Second Division Birtley beat first division Seaham 2-0, thanks to goals by Joe Barwick and Tony Smith.

Marske United came from behind for the second home game running when they beat Tadcaster 2-1 at Mount Pleasant in the EvoStik League East.

Tadcaster went in front just after half time, but after Curtis Round had a shot cleared off the line, Jamie Owens headed Marske level from a corner on 78 minutes.

And in stoppage time, Damien Stevens showed good skill to fire the winner, and keep Marske in the top two.

In the Northern League, Newton Aycliffe failed to end Dunston’s unbeaten record when they were beaten 3-1 at the UTS stadium.

Dunston took the lead after 25 minutes when Liam Thear scored from a Callum Little pass, but Aycliffe levelled midway through the second half with a header by Kurt Matthews.

But Dunston went back in front when Mark Fitzpatrick set up Jack Elliott to fire home, and then on 82 minutes Jordan Nellis cracked in the third.

Also in the first division, Sunderland RCA missed a chance to go clear when they lost their local derby 3-1 at Ryhope CW.

In the FA Cup, Consett lost their replay at Warrington, and Blyth beat Nantwich.
